Research Study: Motivations and barriers to playing parasports
The Algonquin College Human-Centred Design Institute invites you to participate in a survey examining motivations and barriers to playing parasports. This study is being conducted on behalf of Wheelchair Basketball Canada. Findings will help inform the development of a recruitment strategy to attract prospective athletes.
Eligibility:
- must be 18 years of age or older
- must live in Canada
Expectations:
This study is in the form of a questionnaire and follow-up interview. The questionnaire will take approximately 10 minutes to complete. During that time you will be asked to answer questions related to your experience playing parasports. At the end of the questionnaire you will be asked if you might be interested in participating in a follow-up interview. You are under no obligation to participate in the follow-up interview after completing the questionnaire.

Risk:
The risk of participating in this study is minimal. Only aggregate data will be analyzed, and any personal information or identifiers will be removed before analysis and dissemination.
The questionnaire will be conducted via Google Form. Data collected will be exported to a Google Sheet (spreadsheet) for analysis. The follow-up interview will be conducted over Zoom. A video recording will be transcribed to Google Docs (document) for analysis. All data will be password-protected in Google Drive on servers in the United States. As such, data collected is open to access by American regulatory bodies.
You are under no obligation to participate in this study and may withdraw without compromising your relationship with Algonquin College or Wheelchair Basketball Canada. You may withdraw from this study by emailing the Principal Investigator no later than Friday, March 4th. Should you withdraw from this study your data will be destroyed. By participating in this study you have not waived any rights to legal recourse in the event of research-related harm.
Compensation:
There is no financial compensation for participating in this study. At the end of the questionnaire you will be asked if you are interested in participating in a draw for one of ten $100 gift cards.
