Women’s Provincial Team
Paul Bowes, ChPC, has been selected as the Head Coach of our Women’s Provincial Team and will be coaching Team Ontario at CWBL Women’s National Championships in April of 2016. Paul brings with him a wealth of coaching experience at the local, provincial and national level. Currently, Paul is the Head Coach of the London Forest City Flyers, a role he has held since 1988. As a member of the men’s national program, Paul has been to five Paralympic Games, bringing home four medals during that time. He is the only head coach to win a World Championship Gold Medal for the men’s team in 2006. At the provincial level, Paul served as the Head Coach of Ontario’s men’s team from 1994-2001, bringing home six gold medals and two silver medals. Paul’s extensive coaching and managerial experience in both grass roots and elite level programs make him an incredible asset to the women’s provincial program.
Junior Provincial Team
Kathy Ludwig has been chosen to lead our Junior Provincial Team. Coach Kathy served as an Assistant Coach at Canada Games in 2015 and will lead the team at Junior Regionals in Prince Edward Island from May 14-16, 2016 and into the next Canada Games in Red Deer, Alberta in 2019. At the local level, Kathy is the Head Coach for the Brampton Suns of the Cruisers Sports for the Physically Disabled, a position she has held since 2008. At the provincial level, Kathy was the Head Coach of the Women’s Provincial Team from 2011-2013. In 2011, Kathy joined the coaching staff of the junior provincial program in that capacity of Apprentice Coach and her commitment to the junior program has continued to the present time. Kathy’s passion and commitment for the sport of wheelchair basketball is unparalleled in this province and we look forward to seeing her lead, guide and develop our next generation of high performance young athletes in Ontario.
Information about team selection and development days will be available shortly. All interested athletes and coaches across Ontario will be invited to attend. For more information, please contact our Wheelchair Basketball Provincial Coordinator, Josée Matte for more information at josee@onpara.ca
