Ontario Athletes Named to Team Canada for 2026 World Wheelchair Rugby Championship
Ontario Para Network congratulates the 12 athletes selected to represent Canada at the 2026 World Wheelchair Rugby (WWR) World Championship, taking place August 17–24 in São Paulo, Brazil.
The tournament will bring together the top 12 wheelchair rugby nations from around the world as teams compete for the world title. Team Canada will compete in Pool A alongside Australia, Brazil, the Netherlands, New Zealand, and the United States.
Five Ontario athletes have been named to the Canadian roster:
- Cody Caldwell – Peterborough, ON
- Matt Debly – Windsor, ON
- Rio Kanda Kovac – Toronto, ON
- Travis Murao – Toronto, ON
- Eric Rodrigues – Mississauga, ON
The 2026 roster features a strong balance of veteran leadership and emerging talent, with four athletes set to make their World Championship debut in São Paulo: Maxime Drolet-Gauthier, Rio Kanda Kovac, Austin MacLellan, and Yanick Racicot.
Canada will open competition on August 17 against Australia before facing Brazil on August 18, the United States on August 19, and the Netherlands and New Zealand on August 20 during the preliminary round. Crossover and playoff matches will follow from August 21–22, with medal matches scheduled for August 23.
All matches will be streamed live with English commentary through World Wheelchair Rugby’s YouTube channel.
