Research Study: Mental Health of Elite Athletes
Researchers at the University of Toronto are interested in learning about the mental health experiences of Canadian high performance athletes as they prepare for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The project explores how the mental health of senior carded and/or elite athletes varies over time leading into an after the Olympics, the results of which will give a better understanding of how athletes can be supported during this time.
If athletes agree to participate, they will be asked to complete four questionnaires, which are online and can be completed at a convenient location and time. The questionnaire will ask questions about age, gender, sport experience, sport stress, social support, coping, self-esteem, and mental health. Each will take approximately 15-20 minutes to complete.
The questionnaires will be sent in December 2019, March 2020, June 2020, and September 2020. There will also be a question which asks whether athletes would like to be contacted to participate in a follow up interview.
Participants will receive a $10 gift card for every questionnaire they participate in (e.g., completing all 4 questionnaires = $40).
