Athlete Development

Ontario High Performance Camp

ONPARA and Wheelchair Basketball Canada are hosting the Ontario High Performance Camp to kick off the 2019-2020 season! This camp is a wheelchair basketball skill development and identification opportunity open to athletes of all genders, both with and without disabilities, over the age of 12 (born in or before 2007)*.
Anyone interested in building their tactical and technical skills with goals of one day being part of Team Ontario and/or Team Canada are welcome to attend! The camp will be led by WBC National Academy Director Michael Frogley alongside Ontario Junior Head Coach Kathy Ludwig and other Ontario coaches.
*Athletes under the age of 12 (born after 2007) may be eligible to attend camp, provided they are recommended by their home club coach.

Date: September 28-29, 2019

  • Saturday, September 29 – 8:30am – 6:00pm
  • Sunday, September 30 – 8:30am – 3:00pm

Registration:
Camp participants are required to complete their camp registration online through the ONPARA website.

Please note, all camp participants must be registered ONPARA members for the 2019-2020 season. If you have not yet completed your membership, please visit the ONPARA Membership page.

Deadline: Athletes are asked to register online by Wednesday, September 25 at midnight.

Coach Education

NCCP ‘Competition Introduction’ Coaching Course

The NCCP ‘Competition Introduction’ clinic is designed for coaches who wish to learn the skills and techniques needed to coach wheelchair basketball in an introductory competitive setting. There is no prerequisite to attend and is considered to be the entry level wheelchair basketball coaching course.

The focus of the course is to learn to coach the basic skills and tactics of wheelchair basketball required to support the competitive experience for athletes in the ‘Learn to Train’ stage of Long-Term Athlete Development pathway.

Prerequisite: None

Note: The Competition Introduction course is a 19-hour workshop, scheduled over three days, with on- and off-court teachings. Coaches must attend the entire duration of the course in order to be credited for completion.

  • Friday, September 27 – classroom (6:00pm – 9:00pm)
  • Saturday, September 28 – classroom & gym (8:30am – 8:00pm)
  • Sunday, September 29 – gym & classroom (8:30am – 2:30pm)

Registration Fee: $450
This will cover the cost of the facility rental, course materials & instruction, and coach candidates’ meals. The coach evaluation fee is also covered should a coach look to complete their certification within two years of the course. Candidates will be responsible for covering the cost of their own accommodations, transportation, and parking.
