    Wheelchair Rugby Canada to Host Women’s Health in Sport Webinar -

    Wheelchair Rugby Canada is thrilled to announce that it will host a webinar on Women’s Health in Sport on Wednesday, April 3rd, 2024 at 3:00pm EDT. This free event is open to all genders, and is meant to foster discussion surrounding self-advocacy in the healthcare system through an intersectional lens.

    Join Wheelchair Rugby Canada in its Women’s Health in Sport Webinar, where we host multiple experts in the field of female reproductive health, sport science, and physiotherapy, to discuss the realities of the healthcare system through an intersectional lens.

    This panel-style event will bring together a range of speakers who can speak on elements of this discussion, and foster an environment of open dialogue. Confirmed panelists include:

    • Dr. Kimberly Coros, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Physician and Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto
    • Dr. Anne Berndl, Maternal Fetal Medicine Specialist and Medical Director of the Accessible Care Pregnancy Clinic
    • Dr. Joanna Perkins, Head Physiotherapist for the Wales Rugby Union Women’s Rugby Squad
    • Dr. Izzy Moore, Sport Exercise Medicine at Cardiff Metropolitan University
    • Melanie Labelle, National Team Athlete for Team Canada

    Fannie Smith, Manager of Para Development with Athletics Canada and Board Member for Wheelchair Rugby Canada will moderate the event.

    The Canadian Wheelchair Basketball League (CWBL) National Championship takes place every spring as competitive club teams from across Canada compete for the title of national champion.

    The CWBL National Championship is the premiere national event on the annual domestic wheelchair basketball calendar. The event also plays host to the Wheelchair Basketball Canada annual awards banquet.

    Every year, competitive club teams nationwide compete for the Canadian Wheelchair Basketball League (CWBL) National Championship.

    In 2024, the tournament will be hosted by Parasport New Brunswick at the Richard J. Currie Center in Fredericton, N.B., from April 26-28, 2024.

    At this event, there will be two levels of competition as follows:

    National Championship – Open to club and provincial teams playing a 5v5 format. This competition will begin on Friday, April 26th, with the championship games on Sunday, April 28th, followed by the team medal ceremony.

     Recreational – Open to individuals* and teams playing a 3×3 format. This competition will begin on Saturday morning, April 27th, with the championship games on Sunday, April 28th, followed by the team medal ceremony.

    *Individual players may enter the recreational division and be placed on a team before the first game on April 25th. To join as an individual, please contact the Provincial Sport Organization in your area.

     Minis (U16) – The East Coast Wheelchair Basketball League will host a minis 3×3 tournament.

    WHEELCHAIR TENNIS INSTRUCTOR WORKSHOP -

    The Wheelchair Tennis Instructor Workshop is a Tennis Canada initiative designed to provide interested people (currently certified instructors and coaches, school teachers, recreational therapists, etc.) with the knowledge to teach wheelchair tennis to introductory players.

    Participants will learn how to adapt their coaching to systematically develop beginning wheelchair players. They will help players learn the fundamentals of rallying, starting a point with serve & return, playing the game and most importantly, chair mobility.

    The course will be taught by Tennis Canada National Coach for Wheelchair Tennis and 3 time Paralympic Medalist Kai Schrameyer & Ely Schwartz, Community Outreach Manager Ontario Tennis

    WORKSHOP INFORMATION

    WHO: The course is open to everyone however, only Instructors or coaches already certified by Tennis Canada are eligible to receive the official certificate upon completion of the course. (100% attendance required)

    TIME: SUNDAY, APRIL 28, 2024 from 10:00am – 5:00pm
    One day course (6 hours)

    COST: $ 79 for TPA Members - $ 119 for Non TPA members

    NOTE: This workshop counts for a FULL-DAY of professional development with the Tennis Professional Association TPA
